B1 Preliminary (PET)

Intermediate (B1) Cambridge certification for everyday, work, study and travel situations.

The B1 Preliminary (PET) is an official Cambridge English certification that validates an intermediate (B1) level under the CEFR. It proves you have the language skills to communicate in everyday, work, study and travel situations.

Exam structure (approx. 2h 20m)

• Reading (45 min): 6 parts, 32 questions — notices, articles and short texts.
• Writing (45 min): 2 parts — a short email and either an article or a story.
• Listening (30 min): 4 parts based on everyday recordings.
• Speaking (10-12 min): taken in pairs.

Scoring

140-159 for the B1 certificate; 160-170 shows B2-level skills; 120-139 is recognized as A2.
